Max Rosen is a Freelance Hornist in the New York Metropolitan Tri-State Area. Having performed in a variety of opera and theater orchestras, symphonies, and wind ensembles, he is best known for his soft, delicate timbre. Rosen’s passion is for early and liturgical music, with an emphasis on the purity of the classical horn.
Rosen is currently Principal Horn of St. Catherine’s Players and Troupers Light Opera in Old Greenwich, CT. He regularly performs with Utopia Opera, Orchestra 201, and others.
His teachers include Javier Gandara, Anneke Scott, Peter Reit, and Shelagh Abate.
Education
Rosen’s teaching studio has ranged from pre-K beginners to adult learners. His students have achieved competitive placements, including at Juilliard Prep.
Rosen’s teaching strategies adjust to the demands of individual students. No two players are the same, so Rosen embraces their differences and teaches them so that they receive and retain the most from every lesson.
Rosen is also a seasoned researcher, writer, and lecturer, Having written and presented papers on subjects ranging from Early Brass Instruments to Anti-Discrimination Legislation, Rosen is qualified to consult on research methods, identifying forms of bias, persuasive writing, grammar, correct MLA and APA formatting, and more. He can also formulate potential questions to your research and effectively play devil’s advocate to assist you in strengthening your arguments.
Performance
Management
Rosen possesses ample experience on the management side of the music industry. He has contracted performances for Orchestra 201 among others, is currently the Personnel Manager, Communications Director, and Brass Section Leader of the Sound Beach Community Band.
Rosen has created new arrangements of music for the Sound Beach Community Band, New Jersey Gamer Symphony Orchestra, and others. He has also transcribed several rare solo works, notably Leopold Mozart’s Horn Concerto. The arrangement will have its world premiere in early 2025.
Rosen is also working on producing concerts for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, details coming soon.
Additionally, Rosen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, which he earned studying under esteemed economists including but not limited to Sanford Ikeda, Liya Palagashvili, and Cédric Ceulemans.
